So Google just announced a new DNS resolution service. I followed their instructions to reset my DNS server to theirs, and pages are loading lightning fast. I don’t know if this is just an early adopters benefit and will fade as more folk point their DNS lookup there, or not. But if you want to check it out, go to this link – instructions are given for all the major OS’s.
Some folks are always suspicious of Google, so check out this article if you are one (or even if you aren’t). These are the guys who’s motto is “Don’t Be Evil (unless you will make a lot of money by going along with the Chinese government).”
For normal folks, DNS is Domain Name System – it a system for translating “www.joescoffee.com” into the “behind the scenes” numeric address that computers use to find each other on the internet.
