I was alright, for a while….

Roy Orbison’s Crying came up on the iPod. That reminded me of the scene in Mullholand Drive where Betty and Rita find themselves in this strange cabaret and a voluptuous woman is singing a song that eventually you realize is Crying in Spanish. The woman faints and you realize that she has been lip syncing. Betty and Rita are so shocked and frightened by this merely odd event that you know you are irretrievably and inescapably lost in Hell. Somehow this is happening to you, as well as Betty and Rita.

It’s clear that David Lynch had some affinity for Roy Orbison, since he used Roy’s songs in several movies. I don’t know what Roy thought of David, beyond liking the exposure that David gave him.

Anyway, Crying always makes me think of that scene. Seriously chilling!
